He states that he will derive 'much satisfaction in being allowed to join in any undertaking to do honor to the Memory of Bishop Ken' [ Thomas Ken (1637-1711) ], and subscribes for three guineas. The memorial would appear to hav…e been a stained-glass window in Ken's church at Frome by 'Mr. O'Connor and his son', as reported in the Gentleman's Magazine, February 1845 and February 1849.

This is a bound collection of seven offprints and papers from the 1890s on historical and military matters. The contents are as follows: 1. The Raising of the Ironsides by C.H. Firth; a 57 page paper read before the Royal Historical… Society on April 20, 1899. There is no title-page. 2. The Battle of Dunbar by C.H. Firth; a 52 page paper read before the Royal Historical Society on Nov. 16, 1899. No title-page but with a folding map. 3. Copy of Notes on the Wallace Collection of Arms and Armour by Robert Coltman Clepham; a 15 page pamphlet c1900 with 2 full-page illustration. No title-page. The top of the first page has been inscribed by the author thus: "With Robert Coltman Clepham's comlipents." 4. Ancient Arms and Armour - A Lecture Delivered at Hereford on the 22nd and 23rd of October 1890 by Stephen W. Williams. This is a 19 page pamphlet published by Whiting & Co. in 1890, presumed first edition thus. The original front cover is retained and inscribed on the top edge of the cover thus: With the Author's Compliments. 5. On the Arming of Levies in the Hundred of Wirral in the County of Chester and the Introduction of Small Fire Arms as Weapons of War in Place of Bows and Arrows by Joseph Mayer; a 17 page pamphlet with 8 black and white plates and original title-page. Published by T. Brakell, Liverpool, in 1859. Presumed first edition. 6. Norwich Militia in the Fourteenth Century by Rev. William Hudson. Pages 263 to 320 of Vol. XIV of the Norfollk and Norwich Archaeological Society. A 52 page extract with original front cover that has been inscribed Frrom the Author with a date (1902) on the top edge of the cover. 7. The Colonel and His Command by Julian Corbett. Reprinted from the American Historical Review Vol. II No. 1, October 1896. An 11 page pamphlet inscribed "With the Author's Compliments" on the top edge of the cover. The papers are bound in early 20th C. (probably 1930s) red cloth covered boards with three authors' names stamped in gold on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and slight fading to the spine. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and some of the first pages or covers have paper marker tabs attached to the top edge. The free endpapers are browned and the front free endpaper has a handwritten list of contents together with a name and date (1937).

It reports the resolution of the 'Home Committee', 11 March… 1902, 'the decease of Mr. Klugh having been reported': 'The Ladies' Committee wish to express their deep sympathy with Mr. Klugh and her daughter in their great sorrow, and also to say how sincerely they regret the loss of such an old and valued friend of the Institution'. TWO: 2pp., 4to. Signed by 'Alfred J Buss | Hon Sec and Chairman'. It reports the resolution passed on the announcement of Klugh's death at a 'meeting of the Board of Management held at the Office, 32, Sackville Street', 12 March 1902. The Board of Management 'desire to place on record an expression of their regard for him personally as well as of the unfailing courtesy and consideration which he showed for all connected with the Institution', praising Klugh's abilities and 'the faithful services he rendered to the Institution during the long period of 58 years'. THREE: 2pp., 4to. Signed by 'Mary Williams' and 'Alfred Buss BA | Hon Sec'. It reports the resolutions at a 'Ladies' Committee held at 47 Harley Street', 20 March 1902, 'Mrs. Theodore Williams, presiding'. The Committee send their sympathies and 'desire to place on record their sense of the very valuable services he rendered to the Governesses who apply to this Committee - and also to the able manner in which he conducted the business and the unfailing courtesy which he showed alike to the Committee and applicants'. The Governesses Benevolent Institution was founded in London in 1841 to assist governesses during illness, poverty and old age, and was renamed the Schoolmistresses and Governesses Institution in 1952.
