None of the works have been seen at auction. A collection of three very scarce pamphlets, each one being a sermon delivered on a fast-day. Each pamphlet is scarce, with none recorded being sold at auction. This work contains; 'The Necessity and Encouragement, of Utmost Venturing for the Churches Help: Together with the Sin, Foll, and Mischief of Self-Idolizing', by Herbert Palmer, published by John Bellamie in 1643. On Esther IV, 13-14. This sermon was delivered on the 28th June 1643. ESTC citation number R21704. This work is a quarto. The signatures run as A2, B-K4. Collated, complete. Herbert Palmer was a Puritan clergyman, and a member of the Westminster Assembly. He was a leading opponent of John Milton's divorce tracts. This sermon has political overtones, and preached this sermon before the House of Commons. 'Babylons Ruining-Earthquake and the Restauration of Zion', by William Reyner, published by Samuel Enderby in 1644. On Haggai II, 6-7. This sermon was delivered on the 28th August 1644. ESTC citation number R18099. This work is a quarto. The signatures run as A3, B-H4, I2. Collated, bound without the preliminary order to print, as called for by the ESTC. William Reyner was a priest. Very little is known about his life, but he died in 1666. 'Hierusalem: or a Vision of Peace', by Christopher Tesdale, published by Phil Stephens in 1644. On Psalms, CXXII, 6. This sermon was delivered on the 28th August 1644. ESTC citation number R2601. This work is a quarto. The signatures run as A2, B-E4. The last leaf bears 'Catalogue of the names of Those Divines Who Have Preached Before the Parliament, Beginning Jan. 18. to September 25. 1644'. Collated, complete. Christopher Tesdale was a Pastor at Husborn Tarrant of Southampton, and a member of the Assembly of Divines. Disbound, with the backstrip still attached. Externally, backstrip with some discolouration. Some light marks to the rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with the occasional spot and mark. Title page of 'The Necessity and Encouragement' with repairs. Small loss to the head of page 49/50 of 'The Necessity and Encouragement', not affecting text. Slight cropping to the running titles of 'Babylons Ruining-Earthquake', and a heavier mark to the pages of this pamphlet. Good. book.
