In den WarenkorbOriginally published in the 1870s, this edition is probably from around the 1890s. A collection of songs for schoolchildren. "The music is written in the " patent union notation," which is an ingenious combination of the ordinary and the tonic sol-fa methods, and is suited for instrumental as well as vocal rendering. The Editor deserves credit for the excellence of his choice, both of words and music."( Scotsman). 20cms x 17cms. Pp.188, words + musical notation, owner's name to title page. Grey/blue cloth, gilt title to front, edges slightly rubbed. VG. ** "The great favour with which the "Union School Singing-Book" has been received by Teachers has induced the preparation and issue of the present book of songs, printed in the same notation. The work contains no instructions or lessons in singing, but is simply a collection of songs for practice and recreation. It extends to six Nos. , forming a rather extensive collection, embracing a large number of the best German melodies, united to suitable words, with many from American and other sources, together with a larger proportion of the home songs of our own country than it has hitherto been usual to admit into simi- lar collections for children's use. No pains have been spared to obtain good and pleasant melodies, and to unite them to suitable verses. It has been a special object, also, to make the harmonies flowing and singable, while at the same time effective and musician-like.".

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 2nd Edition. Here for your consideration is a rare set of leather-bound books titled: "The Protestant. Essays on the Principal Points of Controversy Between the Church of Rome and the Reformed" by William McGavin. The sub-title goes on: "With an Introductory Essay; and an Appendix; Illustrating Jesuitism; Monarchism and Popery in America." These two medium-sized but thick calf leather bound books (5 ? x 9 inches, 726 pages in Vol. I & 794 pages in Vol. II) were published by Hutchison and Dwier of Hartford dated 1833 and the Second American from the Ninth Glasgow Edition. The page edges are marbled. Each book has gilt decorations and titling on the spine. Both volumes feature an engraved Frontispiece, but these are the only illustrations in the set; it comprises endless pages of text. The bitter struggles of the Reformation and its aftermath emerge on the pages of these books?.some of the most profound historical happenings of our past! These books are battered to some degree but need a new home and to be preserved as they document some of the most fundamental tenets of our history as Christians. Condition: These books are in very good condition considering that they are almost 200 years old. The leather boards have seen plenty of abuse including rubbing and scrapes and bumping to the corners and spine tips but they are still presentable. The leather gutters on both volumes are dry and fragile but still holding. Inside there is a good deal of foxing in the early and late pages of both volumes but in general the interior pages are without toning or foxing and the text is not obscured in any case. There has obviously been some exposure to moisture and even water staining with various tide lines appearing in the volume (particularly the second volume) but again light in nature and without affecting the legibility of the books. Only one of the four hinges is cracked and not surprisingly, the bindings are tight and sound.
