Slight wear to corners of boards, some tears and marking to boards. Cracking to front joint but solidly bound. Clean text throughout. Neatly inked title to front free endpaper, and name to rear free endpaper (both dated 1812). Complete with the engraved frontis and four further plates, numerous woodcuts within the text. First issued in 1761 by celebrated children's publisher John Newbery, authorship is generally attributed to Newbery, possibly with input from Oliver Goldsmith. This is the second printing of the revised and expanded 'New Edition', and the 9th edition overall. A popular children's educator, the book remained in print until the end of the 1830s.
