Three "Two for the Seesaw," and one "Photo by Howell Conant" stamps on verso. "Two for the Seesaw" opened on January 16, 1958 at the Booth Theatre for a highly successf…ul run of 750 performances, closing on October 31, 1959. The play was an unexpected hit, marking the debut of three exceptional talents, playwright William Gibson, actor Anne Bancroft, and director Arthur Penn (who was nominated for a Tony Award). The following year, the three would go on to write, star, and direct, respectively, the 1959 Tony Award winning play "The Miracle Worker," as well as subsequently adapting it for the 1962 Academy Award Winning film. Jerry Ryan (Fonda) leaves his wife and law career in Nebraska and moves to New York, where he meets struggling dancer Gittel Mosca (Bancroft), beginning a precarious relationship. In 1962 it was made into an Academy Award winning motion picture, directed by Robert Wise and starring Robert Mitchum and Shirley MacLaine. In 1973 it was adapted into a musical, with a book by Michael Bennett, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Dorothy Fields. 8 x 10 inches. Very light creasing in two corners, else Near Fine.
