Earls murdered his wife with poison, and this trial account discusses poisons at length. McDade notes: "Earls' motive was the usual other-woman. He gave as his reason for purchasing the poison, 'to kill mink and muskrats,' an imaginative variant. He poisoned his wife the day after she gave birth." "G.W. Stout" is likely George W. Stout [1830-1906], a prominent Easton, Pennsylvania lawyer. The giver is likely Elisha Allis [1832-1893], also a resident of Easton. His wife Sarah was the daughter of William F.
