Embellished with engravings." Original green cloth lightly worn, lower corners curled, text lightly foxed, pages 27-30 nearly detached, few corners creas…ed, lacking rear free endpaper. Frontispiece engraved portrait and 9 full-page engraved plates. Frontispiece tissue guard intact, the initial 2 pages entitled "Recommendations" are statements by ministers and laymen dated April and July 1836 regarding the author and authenticity of his narrative. They have read the narrative and feel that it should be made available to the greater public; perhaps that is why the edition is referred to as a "Revised Edition" - the author having made some changes after his unpublished copy had circulated among various readers. Sabin 41052 lists the earliest editon as 1840. The most notable feature of this book is the original embossed green cloth binding by Benjamin Bradley, with large blind arabesque design on each cover over a subtle pattern of horizontal ribs and thistles repeated on the spine with gilt title. Signed "B. Bradley Binder" on both covers. Very good condition, in a well-preserved state and a fine example of the art of cloth binding in early 19th century America, executed by a highly praised practitioner. Although several examples of bindings by Bradley are listed in William Spawn's American Signed Bindings through 1876, this early work is not.; 228 pages.
