Includes vernacular names and a synopsis of the natural orders and keys to the genera and species, and several species included not previously associated with the distract, that the author hopes to 'form the framework of a future Forest Flora of the Bombay Presidency'. William Alexander Talbot (1847 - 1917) was an Irish botanist who traveled to India. Here, he ran numerous floristic expeditions and experiments. He worked in the Forestry Department, joining the service in 1870, being assistant curator in 1876 and curator in 1901. He is listed on the title page as the 'deputy conservator of forests'.
