Silverman was a long-time reporter in Detroit and Cleveland. "Silverman's biggest story in Detroit was a front-page one in August of 1968. In that story, he disputed the origin of a $300,000 picture titled, " Young Woman with Violin " because, as both his investigative sense and violin knowledge told him, the bow belonged to a later period of time than the picture claimed." In the course of this book, he brings back to life Luigi Tarisio, the man from two centuries earlier, had pursued and found most of the Cremona violins that have survived into the 21st century. He was the greatest collector of stringed instruments who ever lived.
