Little was known of his character until William Aldis Wright published this volume, as well as 'Letters and Literary Remains' in 1889.These letters reveal Fitzgerald as a witty and sympathetic letter writer, corresponding with actress and playwright Fanny Kemble and spanning from 1871 to within three weeks of his death in 1883.
