Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Men of the Inner Jungle' is a compelling narrative of exploration and ethnographic observation set in the dense, mysterious interior of Borneo. Written by adventurer William Fisher Alder, this work chronicles a daring expedition through the rugged terrain of the Dutch East Indies during the early 1920s. Alder leads readers deep into the jungle to encounter the indigenous tribes of the region, providing a firsthand look at cultures that remained largely isolated from the Western world at the time. The book details the expedition's encounters with various groups, including the legendary head-hunters, offering detailed descriptions of their social structures, rituals, and daily survival in a challenging environment. Alder's writing captures the sense of wonder and danger inherent in early 20th-century exploration, combining travelogue elements with early anthropological insights. 'Men of the Inner Jungle' serves as a significant historical record of Southeast Asian indigenous life and the era of intrepid global expeditions, appealing to readers interested in travel history, cultural anthropology, and the lore of the deep jungle. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. First edition. SIGNED. 686pp. Large octavo [23.5 cm] Red hardcover with gilt stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Illustrated. With the compact disc at the rear. There are a couple of minor indentations to the surface of the spine. The dust jacket has light surface and edge wear. There is a 1/4" closed tear to the head of the jacket's spine. Anson Bowen Call served 45 years in the Dublan Ward bishopric, 29 of them as bishop. From the dust jacket- "Many who grew up in Colonia Dublan never knew any other bishop than Anson Bowen Call. The steadiness of his hand as leader of the colony is legendary, but even more remarkable are the many examples of his faith under trying circumstances- calling down the blessings of heaven in times of drought; being instrumental in actual miracles during the perilous decade of the Mexican Revolution; even enduring his own near-execution by firing squad at the hands of rebels- to name just a few." This copy is signed by William G. Hartley and Lorna Call Alder on the title page.…

Bainbridge's (company name Bainbridge & Co.) was a major department store in the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, it claimed to be the first true department store in the world, having begun recording weekly turnover separately by department in 1849. The store dates back to 1838, when Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge went into partnership with William Alder Dunn and opened a drapers and fashion shop in Newcastle's Market Street. At the time of its demise in 2002, the Bainbridge name was one of the longest continuously traded department store brands in the world. Contains 28 pp + covers. Bainbridge & Co. Ltd of Newcastle-on-Tyne Advertising Booklet from the era of 1912 to 1914 is a valuable piece of ephemera.
