Rare. - This 1710 edition of Prodromus Historiae Literariae by the polyhistor and librarian Petri Lambecii Hamburgensis (Peter Lambeck (1628-1680)) is a landmark work in the evolution of literary history and early modern bibliography. Initially conceived as a preface to the catalogue of the Imperial Library in Vienna, the Prodromus expanded into a sweeping survey of global literary traditions, bibliographic practices, and intellectual history. The volume is accompanied by the Tabula duplex chronographica universalis, a dual chronological table aligning civil and ecclesiastical timelines - reflecting the early modern effort to unify sacred and secular history. This expanded edition includes several notable supplements: Lambecius's own Iter Cellense, detailing a scholarly journey; Alexander Fichet's Arcana studiorum methodus and Idea locorum communium, two foundational texts of Renaissance pedagogy and knowledge organization. Added is the first publication of the Catalogus librorum manuscriptorum Bibliothecae Mediceae, one of the earliest catalogues of manuscripts from the Bibliotheca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence - founded by the Medici family - by Wilhelm Langius (1521-1592). Together, these texts offer a rich view of scholarly method, textual transmission, and library science of its time. Petzold 75. Ebert 11657. Schröder IV, S.287,6. NDB XIII, 426.
