Wilhelm Fabry (also William Fabry, Guilelmus Fabricius Hildanus, or Fabricius von Hilden), often called the "Father of German surgery", was the first educated… and scientific German surgeon. He is one of the most prominent scholars in the iatromechanics school and author of 20 medical books. His Observationum et Curationum Chirurgicarum Centuriae, published posthumously in 1641, is the best collection of case records of the century and gives clear insight into the variety and methods of his surgical practice. He developed novel surgical techniques and new surgical instruments. He also wrote a notable treatise on burns (this work).

L'ouvrage comporte notamment une très longue étu…de sur les tumeurs (pp. 1-140). Les planches représentent différents instruments de chirurgie utilisés à l'époque : la plupart ont été inventés ou perfectionnés par l'auteur. Fabricius Hildanus (ou Fabry von Hilden) est considéré comme le "père de la chirurgie allemande". Ce chirurgien, qui se garde de citer Paré, est à l'origine de la première amputation de la cuisse dans les cas de gangrène. Il décrivit pour la première fois un coffret de pharmacie à l'usage de l'armée et il fut le premier à retirer un calcul biliaire d'un patient vivant. Il est également pionnier dans le classement et le traitement des brûlures, auxquelles il consacre un traité entier (De combustionibus,1607). Enfin, il serait parvenu à extraire de l'oeil d'un patient un éclat ferrugineux en utilisant un aimant, selon une suggestion de son épouse. "Fabry publiziere den Fall eines missgebildeten Schaffetus nach einer Sektion des Mutterschafes. Er führte die Sektion des männlichen Feten durch und publizierte diesen Bericht als "De monstro Lausannae Equistrium esciso" mit Widmung an seinen Baseler Lehrmeister Caspar Bauhin. Er nimmt diesen Fall einer symetrischen Doppelmissbildung beim Schaf zum Anlass, den Sektionsbefund um drei weitere Fälle zu ergänzen: eine Doppelmissbildung beim Schaf, die etwa gleichzeitig in Bern aufgetreten war und die er ausgestopft begutachten konnte, ein reinweißer Maulwurf (Albino) vom Murtsee bei Freiburg und ein Bericht über die Doppelmissbildung eines Hahnes, der im Jahr 1586 knapp drei Wochen lang in Chate-Saint-Denis gelebt hatte. Der Band umfasst 16 Seiten mit einem ausklappbaren Kupferstich , der die Missbildungen anatomisch darstellt." (zitiert nach Fabry-Museum Hilden). 1560 in Hilden bei Düsseldorf geboren hatte Fabry nach mehreren Stationen der Ausbildung und Assistenz in Hilden und Köln eine Praxis, wurde 1615 nach weiteren Stationen Stadtarzt von Bern. "Ohne Zweifel gebührt F. die erste Stelle unter den deutschen Chirurgen des 17. Jahrhunderts. An klassisch-wissenschaftlicher Bildung wie an ärztlichem Können überragte er alle Standesgenossen. Gründliche Kenntnis der Anatomie, scharfe Diagnostik und hohe ärztliche Ethik waren die für seinen Ruf und seinen Erfolg verantwortlichen Faktoren. Er verbesserte mehrere chirurgische Operationen (Amputationen, Steinschnitt, chirurgische Eingriffe am Auge) und erfand eine große Anzahl chirurgischer Instrumente." Zeitgenössischer Besitz Vermerk Joh. Jacob Martini, Heid. Med. D. ao 1685 i.e. Johann Jakob Martini (* 24. Juli 1659 in Heidelberg; nach 1687), ein deutscher Arzt, Militärarzt in Heidelberg und Mitglied der Gelehrtenakademie Leopoldina. Martini studierte Medizin in Heidelberg und wurde im Jahr 1675 unter Georg Franck von Franckenau zum Doktor der Medizin promoviert. Er war leitender Garnisonsarzt in Heidelberg. Für die Jahre zwischen 1676 und 1685 sind Wirkungsdaten als Garnisonsarzt in Heidelberg belegt. Im Juni 1687 wurde Johann Jakob Martini mit dem Beinamen PLATO II. als Mitglied (Matrikel-Nr. 154) in die Leopoldina aufgenommen. Erster Vortitel außerhab des Textes hinterlegt, sonst woherhaltenes Exemplar. la Gewicht in Gramm: 5500 Ganzpergamenteinband der Zeit mit handschriftloche Rückentitel.
