Combining close textual analysis with wider theoretical concerns, Cox traces this philological transformation in the works of the dramaturgist śāradātanaya, the celebrated Vaiṣṇava poet-theologian veṅkaṭanātha, and the maverick Śaiva mystic maheśvarānanda.
