Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. Sydney, Royal Society of New South Wales, 1889. Octavo, 161 pages (drop-title) plus the (front) titling-wrapper. Recent cloth, retaining the original front titling-wrapper (chipped with a little loss, with old tape stains around the recently-strengthened edges); first three leaves lack the bottom corner-tip, with the other corners of the first and last few leaves slightly rounded; overall a very good copy. With the (tape-stained) ownership signature of Bernard Cotton, 1934 on the front cover (and a later owner's details stamped there and on the first page, where he has also written in ink that he purchased the item from Cotton's estate). Cotton was for many years the conchologist at the South Australian Museum; approximately 50 pages of this copy are annotated by him. A 2002 report posted on the Australian Museum website makes the following observations: 'There is a significant lack of data from remote areas . However, even in the better-studied regions of Australia, there are very few locations where the invertebrate fauna has been sufficiently surveyed to enable reasonable baseline data to be obtained. The exceptions include Port Phillip Bay in Victoria and Botany Bay and Jervis Bay in NSW . On the other hand, the only list of marine invertebrates from Sydney Harbour is that of Whitelegge (1889), and only recently has a survey been undertaken of the port of Sydney Harbour for introduced species by the Australian Museum'.

Published 1896-1900. t.p.+ 609 (21 papers in ten blocks) 28 plates listed for papers up to no.17, 80 text figs, Part 10 (1900) contains the t.p.+contents (now both transfered to front)+iIndex ( top outer corner of first page of which has oddly been excised, not affecting text), issued seperately the contents have been collectively bound in near pristine green cloth covers (faint trace of label removal bottom spine but no other signs of library provenance), original seperate ciovers/wrapper not bound in, in simple acetate wrapaound protecive jacket. Very scarce as a complete set of original editions. Unpacked weighs 1.4 kg so allow for some additional postage especially outside UK.
