Post Card. Zustand: Good. Randy Green (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. This is a 6" x 8.25" post card. Edge tear at the top right corner. Illustration of large 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle on the front. The back of the card reads: "War broke out between the North and South on April 12, 1861 and lasted almost exactly four years (April 9, 1865) - resulting in 618,000 deaths from all causes. Artist Randy Green has created a somber yet magnificent overview of the key states involved and the heroic figures who emerged from this tragic yet ultimately liberating and unifying conflict." It has about a third of the space for an address and two thirds of the space for a message--both are currently blank. The copyright and publisher information is at the bottom of this side. Randy Green is an American professional illustrator who created historical themed images for puzzles and artwork for other purposes. In 1978, two entrepreneurs in New Hampshire started a small poster company that evolved into White Mountain Puzzles. White Mountain Puzzles grew gradually and is still a family owned business. White Mountain Puzzles has grown into one of the top puzzle brands in the United States! Every White Mountain Puzzle is manufactured in America. Every year our quality improves. All our puzzles are interlocking and made of sturdy blue chipboard on recycled paper. Our 1000 piece puzzles are the LARGEST IN THE INDUSTRY, measuring 24" x 30" when finished. In 2018 White Mountain Puzzles represented New Hampshire as one of only 50 companies - one from each state - invited to the White House for the Made in America Showcase. A postcard or post card is a piece of thick paper or thin cardboard, typically rectangular, intended for writing and mailing without an envelope. Non-rectangular shapes may also be used but are rare. In some places, one can send a postcard for a lower fee than a letter. Stamp collectors distinguish between postcards (which require a postage stamp) and postal cards (which have the postage pre-printed on them). While a postcard is usually printed and sold by a private company, individual or organization, a postal card is issued by the relevant postal authority (often with pre-printed postage). Production of postcards blossomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As an easy and quick way for individuals to communicate, they became extremely popular. The study and collecting of postcards is termed deltiology (from Greek 'deltion', small writing tablet, and the also Greek 'logy', the study of). As a primary source, postcards are incredibly important to the types of historical research conducted by historians, historic preservationists, and genealogists alike. They give insight into both the physical world, and the social world of the time. During their heyday postcards revolutionized communication, similar to social media of today.[8] For those studying communication, they highlight the adoption of media, its adaptation, and its ultimate discarding. Postcards have been used to study topics as diverse as theater, racial attitudes, and war.
