Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | "I was not born but given life." In the mystical heart of a land whispered by the River and the Oak, stands the guardian of history - the Standing Stone. The Tale of the Standing Stone by debut author Liam White is a captivating journey through time, exploring themes of friendship, loss, and redemption. From the days when clans roamed and the night sky was a canvas of stories, to the quiet when the land forgot its past, the Standing Stone has seen it all. This ancient stone, a silent witness to the unfolding of ages, finds itself forgotten when the River diverts and the Oak falls. Yet, hope is rekindled with the arrival of a new generation, who uncover the stone's magic, restoring its place in the world with the planting of a new oak. With a background in archaeology and the classics, Liam White crafts a story that resonates with the resilience of nature and the enduring power of memory.

In a small Greek island village, local residents and a group of international travelers are brought together by sudden tragedy, in a story of friendship, dreams, fears, and complicated relationships forever altered by their shared experiences. Anne Maeve Binchy Snell (28 May 1939 - 30 July 2012) was an Irish novelist, playwright, short story writer, columnist, and speaker. Her novels were characterized by a sympathetic and often humorous portrayal of small-town life in Ireland, and surprise endings. Her novels were translated into 37 languages. Her death at age 73, announced by Vincent Browne on Irish television late on 30 July 2012, was mourned as the death of one of Ireland's best-loved writers. She appeared in the US market, featuring on The New York Times best-seller list and in Oprah's Book Club. Recognized for her "total absence of malice" and generosity to other writers, she finished third in a 2000 poll for World Book Day, ahead of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Stephen King. In 1999, she received the British Book Award for Lifetime Achievement. In 2000, she received a People of the Year Award. In 2001, Scarlet Feather won the W H Smith Book Award for Fiction. In 2007, she received the Irish PEN Award. In 2010, she received a lifetime achievement award from the Irish Book Awards. In 2012, she received an Irish Book Award in the "Irish Popular Fiction Book" category for A Week in Winter. In a small town in Greece, a group of people witness a boating accident and subsequently become tangled in each other's lives. Thomas is a California university professor escaping from a tense relationship with his remarried ex-wife and their son, whom he adores. Elsa, the beautiful German blonde, resigned from her successful television job to escape her ex-boyfriend, whom she still loves. Irish Fiona couldn't stand her family and friends' resentful attitudes towards her boyfriend, Shane, so she and Shane escaped to peaceful Greece. David, a kind Englishman, doesn't want to take over his father's business as his family expects him to, and instead decides to travel. These strangers meet in a tavern in peaceful Aghia Anna underneath the stars, and soon they become close friends. Vonni, a native who escaped her family in Ireland many years ago, becomes involved in all their lives and together they form bonds and discover things about each other and themselves that they never could have anticipated. Derived from a review by The Book Wisperer: I didn't intend to read this book: I came to it by accident after mistakenly believing that my Maeve Binchy days were behind me. Twenty plus years ago I devoured her books - Echoes, Light a Penny Candle, Circle of Friends etc - they were wonderful and comforting and epic and saw me through my teens. Then I moved on to other authors. Last month, when on a Greek Island and having finished all the books I had taken with me I needed something else to read and picked this book out of a miniscule selection of about 10 books in the little supermarket near our villa. This book was set in Greece and it would be a blast from the past, but I was completely unprepared for how much I loved it! Nights of Rain and Stars starts in a little Greek taverna high on a hill and 6 strangers gather to watch the horrifying explosion of a tour boat in the harbor below. Fiona and her horrible boyfriend Shane are from Ireland, Elsa is from Germany, Thomas from America and David from England eat and talk together with the Greek owner of the taverna well into the night and soon feel that they have been friends for a long time and their friendship continues through the next few weeks as they all discover more about each other and what they are running away from. Anyone who is familiar with Maeve Binchy will know what to expect: she is an author who write about.

In den Warenkorbpaperback. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.
