(21 cm.) vii, 245p. Illustrated with 12 black and white captioned photos. Black paper covered boards with yellow letters on the spine and with a vignette in yellow on the front cover of a honey bee. Some chipped spots around the edges of these very fragile paper covered boards, yellow letters and vignette in fine condition, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. in 1934, when Harry J. Whitcombe moved to Davis to begin his career as a beekeeper. Besides serving on the Davis City Council from 1954 to 1958 , Harry headed a successful program in conjunction with UCD to use active pollination to increase crop yields. Harry was later appointed to be the Davis Police Commissioner. Born in Seattle in 1904, educated at the University of Washington and Harvard, John Scott Doublas was a writer, who published scores of short stories, novelettes and serials. BEES ARE MY BUSINESS was dedicated to George H. Vansell, a government research scientist who devoted his life to the progress of beekeeping and whose name appears frequently in its pages.
