Front hinge of Volume I starting, text block sound. Top edge gilt. Occasional toning throughout, a few extraneous pencil marks. (Sabin 76397). This scarce work by John Sanderson was first printed in the United States in 1838, with the title "Sketches Of Paris: In Familiar Letters to His Friends by An American Gentleman." It was published by E.L. Carey of Philadelphia. It is a collection of letters and travel reflections of a teacher and writer, John Sanderson, who traveled specifically to Havre and Paris. The work was later translated into French by Jules Janin. (Sabin 76405).
