In den WarenkorbLeather. Zustand: Good+. First Edition. 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 148 pages; Two volumes bound together. 1748 & 1753, respectively. Both 1st edition. Hamilton's Poems on Several Occasions bound in at rear following the collection of poetry, The Union; Or, Select Scots and English Poems. Hamilton's collection is distinguished by the 1s…t appearance in print of Adam Smith, who penned the unsigned Preface. The Union collection features an early printing of Grey's Elegy in a Country Church-Yard along with work by Shipley, Lowth, Thomas Wharton, Smallet. Both works gathered in 4's. 144; 148 pp. Title pages present for both volumes; Hamilton's collection - leaf Q4 - has the page numbers neatly excised leaving a small hole in the top margin where page 128/129 should be. In period polished calf with gilt rules in triple amd extra gilt to spine. Title label lacking; front board attached by cords only and tenuous; rear joint rubbed and tender with separation to leather. All edges gilt but with some loss to gilt at front edge from mild paper predation. Armorial bookplate of the Thorolds library at Syston Park. Text block of both works quite neat and very snugly bound but wanting rebacking and a new label. G++ thus.
