Bound in publisher's dark green cloth with pictorial stamping in color and gilt. Very Good with moderate rubbing to cloth, lean to spine, binding starting. Occasional foxing. Plates clean and bright. A luxurious book commissioned by the editor of The Century Magazine, who brought together two Edwardian luminaries by asking Edith Wharton to write descriptive text to accompany Maxfield Parrish's watercolors. Wharton took her task seriously and included a bibliography, index, and capsule biographies of 55 historical architects and landscape gardeners.
