In den Warenkorbvery good small blue hardcover, black and white photos and many color drawings. STOUT, WESLEY WINANS. A war job "thought impossible". Detroit, Michigan: Chrysler Corporation, 1945, 51pp., . In February, 1945, Chrysler completed one of its war jobs. This was the making of 5,500 gyro-compasses for the Navy. "The completion of this compass," Rear Admiral E. L. Cochrane, chief of the Bureau of Ships, wrote the Corporation, "will mark the completion of one of industry's war contracts originally considered impossible; that is, the manufacture of an intricate, delicate gyro-compass by other than a manufacturer especially trained and skilled in the art." In order to manufacture a precision instrument with ordinary labor, management broke the compass and its machining down into simple components and operations easily taught a novice, so engineered the tooling that the accuracy was transferred from the mechanic to the machine tool.…

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Once a Clown, Always a Clown: Reminiscences of Dewolf Hopper' offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and career of one of the most celebrated figures of the American stage. As a master of operetta and comedy, DeWolf Hopper shares a treasure trove of anecdotes from his decades-long career in theater, spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This memoir details Hopper's experiences navigating the vibrant world of Broadway and vaudeville, providing a firsthand account of the evolution of American entertainment. The narrative captures the spirit of a bygone era, featuring encounters with legendary performers and providing behind-the-scenes stories of famous productions. Hopper also reflects on his enduring connection to the classic poem 'Casey at the Bat,' which became a staple of his performances and a significant part of his public identity.Written with wit and charm, the work serves as both a personal history and a broader cultural record of the performing arts. It is an essential read for enthusiasts of theater history, biography, and the golden age of American comedy, preserving the legacy of a performer who truly lived by the credo that the show must go on.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. [1st ed., 1st printing] ; 133 pages : illustrations (some color), portraits, map ; 21 cm OCLC 566461 ; textured black cloth with gold lettering, no dustjacket ; In time of peace a new aircraft engine is as much as two and a half years from the drawing board to an experimental job on a test stand, another year or more to Army acceptance, still another year or more to production in quantities. New planes normally are flight-tested, modified, retested, modified again and again before a production order. But of desperate necessity, the Air Force was trying to cut this time by two thirds. It did so. The new plane and new engine, unapproved as of January, 1942, knocked Japan out of the war in 1945. When Japan's surrender terminated Chrysler's contract, 18,413 engines had been built and shipped from Chicago. - p. 2-3 ; Later issued as a 7-volume set with titles on bullets, war production, etc, this is the volume Chrysler devoted to the B-29 bomber ; Wesley Winans Stout was a former editor of The Saturday Evening Post. He had worked on newspapers before joining The Post in 1922. In 1937 after being an associate editor for nearly 15 years he was named editor. Under his editorial guidance The Post began running its first photographic covers, first used the works of 15 artists and published the works of more than 147 authors new to the magazine. After retirement, he moved to Ft. Lauderdale where he wrote a column for The Fort Lauderdale Daily News. ; Printed card laid in from Chrysler President K. T. Keller. Kaufman Thuma Keller (27 November 1885 - 21 January 1966), was an American corporate executive who served as the president of Chrysler Corporation from 1935 to 1950 and as its chairman of the board from 1950 to 1956.[3] He is also known for proposing the creation of the Detroit Arsenal. Keller joined the General Motors Company (GMC) in 1911, and he worked as a general master mechanic for one of GMC's divisions, the Buick Motor Company from 1916 to 1919. He quickly rose to become a vice president of Chevrolet in 1921, later becoming a vice president for Chrysler. From 1935 to 1950 he served as Chrysler's president and then as its chairman of the board until 1956. ; rarely-seen photos and color paintings of war scenes ; scarce ; FINE. Book.…

In den WarenkorbHardcover. First Edition. Cloth. Illustrated with photographs. SIGNED on the front endpaper "Sincerely,/Amos Alonzo Stagg/December, 1927." A scarce early inscription before his writing became shaky by one of the most important figures in American sports. Stagg, the first to be elected to the Football Hall of Fame as both player and coach, was active in the sport until the age of 98. He is credited with originating more plays and formations than any other man and, among other developments, is responsible for the forward pass, the huddle, and numbered uniforms. Stagg also invented the indoor batting cage and pioneered the headlong slide in baseball. In addition Stagg participated in the first public basketball game on 11 March 1892, scoring his team's only basket, and the first intercollegiate basketball game on 18 January 1896. He is said to be responsible for the concept of five-man basketball. Of the Grand Old Man of the Game, Knute Rockne once said, "All football comes from Stagg." Owner inscription on the half-title page. Near Fine, lacking the scarce dustwrapper.…
