In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. The Beit El-Wali Temple of Ramesses II by Herbert Ricke, George R. Hughes, and Edward F. WenteThe Temple of Beit el-Wali is a rock-cut Ancient Egyptian temple in Nubia which was built by Pharaoh Ramesses II and dedicated to the deities of Amun-Re, Re-Horakhti, Khnum and Anuket. It was the first in a series of temples built by Ramesses II in this region; its name Beit el-Wali means 'House of the Holy Man' and may indicate its previous use by a Christian hermit at some point in time. In an amazing feat of salvage archaeology, the temple was cut up and relocated--then reassembled on higher ground--during the 1960s as a result of the flooding to be caused by the Egyptian Aswan High Dam project. The book and plates come in a presentation case. The condition of the book and plates are good and the pages are clean. The bottom margin of the presentation case is loose, and there are a few stains on the board.

Archaeological survey of the Temple of Beit el-Wali, a rock-cut Ancient Egyptian temple in Nubia which was built by Pharaoh Ramesses II and dedicated to the deities of Amun-Re, Re-Horakhti, Khnum and Anuket. It was the first in a series of temples built by Ramesses II in this region; its name Beit el-Wali means 'House of the Holy Man' and may indicate its previous use as by a Christian hermit at some point in time. The text in the booklet comprises the following: - The architecture and construction of the temple, by H. Ricke. - The epigraphic record, by G.R. Hughes. - The superimposed cartouches in the entrance hall, by E.F. Wente. The plates featured in the portfolio contain numerous photographic reproductions, including 5 in full color, 6 figures of plans and sections, and drawings of murals found in the Temple. Ex-library copy with bookplate on inside of both front covers (booklet and portfolio), and stamp at verso of title page (booklet). Wrappers, portfolio, interior and plates in very good condition. "In March 1960 the United Arab Republic appealed to the world through the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to send archeologists to Nubia in order to save the antiquities - discovered or undiscovered - threatened with destruction by submersion under the great new lake to be created by the High Dam under construction on the Nile south of Aswan. The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago was one of the first institutions to respond. Before March was ended a team was in Cairo arranging for the use of a boat to make a hasty preliminary survey of the Nile Valley in Egyptian Nubia in order to select sites and plan field operations. A four-year concession was granted, from 1960 to 1964. The initial plans for areas to be surveyed excavated changed a few times (as documented in the preface), and the project eventually recorded materials in several areas from Abu Simbel south into the Sudan."
