Zustand: Good. - Octavo, softcover bound in pictorial wrappers. The binding is rubbed & bumped with creasing to the corners. The head & tail of the spine are chipped. Title, 113 & [9] pages. Illustrated with black-and-white vignettes by Sgt. Stanley Meltzoff. There is an owner's ink name dated "Naples / June 1945" on the front endpaper. There is some light staining & soiling to the top edge & fore-edge & the bottom corners of some rear pages are creased. Good. Among those whose poems are included are Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Peter Viereck., environmental activist Wallace Irwin, Jr. and military historian Fairfax Downey.

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. PUPTENT POETS OF THE STARS AND STRIPES MEDITERRANEAN BY HOGAN & WELSH 1945 SOFTCOVER. I am amazed how many books and publications came out from the troops and the writers who covered them during World War II. Here is another titled: Puptent Poets of the Stars and Stripes Mediterranean and it was compiled by Cpl. Charles A. Hogan & Cpl. John Welsh, III. It was illustrated by Sgt. Stanley Meltzoff and edited by Lt. Ed. Hill. This small soft cover book (6 ¾ x 9 ½ inches, 122 pages) was published by the staff of Stars and Stripes Mediterranean Magazine from their base in Italy dated 1945. The soft covers are decorated with a colorful image of the Mediterranean theatre of the War on the cover and the Unit badges of those who served on the inside. I have added a photo of the Foreword and many of the poems found from cover to cover throughout the book. Condition: This book can only be described as well read. It is in very good condition but has obviously passed through many hands with consequent rubbing of the covers including well-worn corners and spine tips. There are some creases too. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages are generally clean and bright throughout with the exception of page 9 where it was once folded and lightly soiled in the upper right-hand corner. The stapled binding is still intact but appears to have been reglued, perhaps even on several occasions.
