Dieser Nachweis ist ihm wohl nicht gelungen. Das mindert die Bedeutung seiner Schrift allerdings nur geringfügig. Denn sind auch vor Nepos schon Einzelschriften über Politiker [.] verfasst worden, die politischen Biographien zum Verwechseln ähnlich waren, so gab es aber davon keine Sammlungen. Es war vielmehr Nepos, der als erster eine Sammlung von Feldherrn-Viten herausgab. Demgemäß kann Nepos sein Wissen nicht aus Sammlungen geschöpft haben. Es muss [.] direkt historischen Werken entnommen sein. Damit erhalten Nepos' Biographien einen recht hohen Quellenwert, zumal sein Wissen außer auf Thukydides vor allem auf hellenistischen Standardwerken wie denen von Ephoros und Theopomp basiert [.]. Folglich muss hinsichtlich Nepos' sog. historischen Irrtümern künftig intensiver geprüft werden, ob es sich bei ihnen um wirkliche oder nur vermeintliche Irrtümer handelt." (etc.; J.
