In den WarenkorbZustand: Very Good. Countdown Publications. London. 1972. First edition, sole impression. No. 349 of a limited edition of 500 copies, signed, dated and numbered by James Wedge. Hardback, oblong folio; black cloth boards with image pasted to board fore-edge and endpapers. [viii pages.] 21 b&w and colour photographs tipped-in on rectos only, with black glassine guards. English. 275x390mm. 1.2kg. Very good; internally excellent, slight creasing to one glassine guard; light shelf wear to boards, a short 1.5cm indentation to top edge of front board. In the early 1970s James Wedge switched career from fashion designer (he ran Top Gear and Countdown on the King's Road in the Sixties) to photographer. The resulting book was self published by Wedge and includes 21 tipped-in plates reproducing experimental photographs of his girlfriend and business-partner Pat Booth. The images have titles such as 'Peaches and Dreams' and 'Goodbye Pat', and feature a range of techniques including photomontage with rayograph, photo-collage with hand-colouring and fabric, and photograph with painting. Wedge's style is influenced by Man Ray, John Heartfield and Hans Bellmer but also reflects the tongue-in-cheek humour of Swinging London. Beaux Books specialises in fine and rare books on art and culture in the 20th and 21st centuries. We welcome questions about our books and we are happy to provide any extra images. Buy with confidence from an experienced bookseller. 1972. First edition, sole impression. No. 349 of a limited edition of 500 copies, signed, dated and numbered by James Wedge. Signed.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: VG+. First Edition. Oblong Folio, Unpaginated (ca 48pp). Printed boards as issued. With 21 tipped in plates printed in mono and duotone with black tissue guards. Text in English. Signed and numbered 79/500 by Wedge in white crayon. Some marks to cover. The insider's outsider. In the late sixties Wedge opened Top Gear on the Kings road with Pat Booth, and later Countdown, who's clientele included Jagger (the 1969 white frock worn at the stones in the park concert), Marianne Faithfull and the rest of the swinging london jetset- he is also reputedly responsible for the mod target, but lets forget that for now. After Countdown, Wedge became jaded with retail and boutique culture, and decided to move into photography. As a trained milliner his work is highly sculptural, and his preoccupations with surrealism make for arresting work. Those familiar with the dark sexuality of Penny Slinger with recognise something in Wedge's photographs and photo collages.
