In 1938 the United States Navy established requirements for a new scout/dive bomber. These requirements were ultimately met by the Curtiss SB2C-1 Helldiver. Flight testing started in Buffalo, New York in late 1940. The aircraft experienced several mechanical failurs and premature acquisition of terrain during the rigorous flight test program. During the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Helldiver squadrons conducted combat operations against Oroto Field and elements of the Imperial Japanese Fleet. Good. No dust jacket as issued.
