Zustand: New. Idioma/Language: Español. Abel Chapman era también de familia vinatera y cervecera inglesa y combinó sus viajes de negocios con una afición muy temprana a la vida silvestre. Cuando llegó a Jerez en 1883 contaba 32 años y tenía a sus espaldas una buena experiencia de cazador, de pescador y de naturalista. El negocio del vino no tenía más remedio que llevarlo a la Península Ibérica, pero su primer deslumbramiento fue Escandinavia en 1881. El segundo fue en España y muy en concreto en Doñana. Chapman no tardó en hacerse amigo de Buck, y ambos constituirían con otro inglés jerezano, don Alejandro Williams (Williams & Humbert) y el marqués de Torre Soto (González Byass) una Sociedad de Monteros que arrendó el Coto a su dueño don Guillermo Garvey. Como puede verse, Chapman era el único de los socios que no era bodeguero local. Tanto en este libro como en el otro que escribieron al alimón, Unexplored Spain, Chapman y Buck dedicaron jugosas páginas al Coto de Doñana y a su vida silvestre. An exciting piece of travel and sports writing from the authors' time in Spain, with chapters on the boar-hunt in Sierra, the fighting bull of Spain, wild camels, the Spanish ibex, trouting, experiences with eagles, bird-life, and wildfowling. Written and illustrated by Abel Chapman, an English hunter-naturalist who contributed to saving the Spanish ibex from extinction and helped in the establishment of South Africa's first game reserve, and Walter J. Buck, a British wildlife enthusiast. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with damp marks to the board edges. The odd small mark to the boards. Light loss to the head of the spine with splits in the cloth at the joints resulting in some of the spine lifting. Front hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Good. book.
