These vintage prints are rare examples of the photographer's works from this time period, as the vast majority of his prints and negatives were destroyed in a house fire.

This is one of only 50 copies signed by the author of the essay Richard Howard. In Big Sur, in 1964, Walter Chappell shot a series of photographs of Sharon Tate at Big Sur (commissioned by her) unseen until 2001 American photographer and poet Walter Chappell (1925-2000) studied under Minor White and was one of the leaders of American monochrome photography along with Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston. For a time, he was also a curator at the prestigious George Eastman House, and had a close relationship with White's Aperture. Photographs of the legendary actress Sharon Tate was tragically murdered in 1969. Signedes.

His association with Minor White, as a student, coworker at the George Eastman House, and with Aperture Magazine, was one of his most enduring. He was represented by the Carl Siembab Gallery, one of the first galleries devoted solely to photography. In the early 1960s, the home he shared with his wife, the painter, Nancy Barrett Dickinson, was destroyed by fire, taking most of his negatives and prints. Photographs made prior to the fire are rare.
