In Big Sur, in 1964, Walter Chappell shot a series of photographs of Sharon Tate at Big Sur (commissioned by her) unseen until 2001 American photographer and poet Walter Chappell (1925-2000) studied under Minor White and was one of the leaders of American monochrome photography along with Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston. For a time, he was also a curator at the prestigious George Eastman House, and had a close relationship with White's Aperture. Photographs of the legendary actress Sharon Tate was tragically murdered in 1969. Signedes.…

In the early 1960s, the home he shared with his wife, the painter, Nancy Barrett Dickinson, was destroyed by fire, taking most of his negatives and prints.
