The very scarce Psalter or Psalms of David by English composer and organist Walter Bond Gilbert. Published by E.P. Dutton and Company in 1882.Rebacked spine, in half green cloth and black cloth. A bookplate for the General Theological Seminary Library in New York to the front paste down.Originally from Exeter, Gilbert spent twenty five years as an organist in England, composing a full cathedral service as a young man, before becoming the organist of Trinity Episcopal Church in New York. In this particular arrangement of the Psalter, psalms are composed for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving, as well as canticles Benedicite and Bonum est. Rebacked spine, in half green cloth and black cloth. Externally, generally smart, with the small occasional mark to black cloth and slight rubbing to the front joint. Marginal rubbing to edges and minor bumping to the extremities. Library sticker to spine. End papers are generally clean, with the occasional small mark. Bookplate to front paste down and library sticker to rear paste down. Signs of wear to the hinges of the end papers. Internally, generally firmly bound, with signs of wear to hinge between leaves pp.92-93 and p.188-189. Pages are bright and clean, with slight age toning to the extremities of leaves. Good. book.
