In den WarenkorbWraps. Zustand: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. vi, 30, unpaginated Appendix I (includes a fold-out), [2] pages. Distribution No. 1632. Inscribed on the front cover from P. D. Wall to Donald J. Kimeldorf. Cover has stamp and writing. Cover has some wear and soiling. Patrick David "Pat" Wall (25 April 1925 - 8 August 2001) was a leading British neuroscientist described as 'the world's leading expert on pain' and best known for the gate control theory of pain. He spent time treating holocaust survivors and refugees in mainland Europe and then moved to the United States. In 1950, he was offered a position as an assistant professor at the University of Chicago, and in this capacity participated in this study. His autograph on a military medical research report is extremely rare. Dr. Tait in 1964 moved to Atlanta and became Professor of Psychiatry at Emory University. The present investigation was concerned with the measurement of the degree of retention of a partially learned maze habit in rats following single total body exposures to varying amounts of X-radiation. During the five-day period immediately following radiation, both time and error scores of rates exposed to 600 r were significantly greater that the control group. This study dealt with the period of what is clinically called "radiation sickness". Conclusions about the alterations in maze performance continuing after the subsidence of acute signs could not be made from this study. It was felt that further study was needed to address the minimum dose of radiation which would be followed by impaired performance. …
