In the publisher's original cloth binding.A limited edition of this work, being number ninety-three of two hundred and five numbered copies.Born in Odessa, William Walcot was a Scottish architect, graphic artist and etcher, best known for his Art Nouveau work in Moscow. In the 1920s and 1930s, he concentrated on graphic art and was praised as 'the best architectural draftsman' in London.Illustrated throughout with 65 reproductions of his etchings and watercolour of which there are thirty-five full plates, including with six colour plates, including a colour frontispiece. Collated, complete.With an introduction from British architect and garden designed Sir Reginald Blomfield. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. The odd slight mark to endpapers. The odd minor handling mark and one or two spots of damp staining to front board. Slight fading to perimeters and spine. Edition limited to 250 numbered copies (this is #229). Complete as issued with the one engraved signed etching as called for in the table of contents. One leaf of explanation with a repaired closed tear. William Walcot (1874-1943) was a Scottish architect, graphic artist and etcher. Engraved frontis facing printed title with an engraved vignette, plus a further 9 full-page engravings, and 4 engravings within the text all with tissue guards (this includes Walcott's signature to p.3, dated 1934). Some leaves un-cut. All leaves with deckled edges lightly soiled. Printed card cover within a glassine cover (yellowed and lightly foxed). Contained within the original quarter calf folder over marbled paper boards. hinges carefully repaired. Spine with four raised bands and rubbed gilt titles.

From a total edition of 200 numbered copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 25 PRINTED ON ANTIQUE JAPANESE PAPER. Only these 25 copies include the original drawing and all 15 etchings (the remaining copies have only 11.) Folio. Loose as issued in original wraps. FINE AND BRIGHT, WITH NO DEFECTS. Housed in the original quarter leather chemise and leather-lined slipcase (somewhat worn but still structurally solid.).

The six etchings illustrate that masque. Introduced by John Drinkwater - the introduction is followed by comments on each of the six plates and a list of subscribers. Three etchings by Frank Brangwyn and three by William Walcot. All the etchings are signed. Unprinted tissue guards. A woodcut of Ludlow Castle is printed on the largest of the inner flaps of the portfolio. There were fifty-one subscribersTissue guards creased. One tissue guard missing. One or two of the plates are slightly creased at the edges. One of the inner flaps of the portfolio has a closed tear. Very good indeed. Very scarce: Library Hub lists only the copy in Oxford.
