Publisher's green pictorial cloth with bevelled board edges, grey endpapers, all edges green. Contents clean, no inscriptions, some rubbing to covers. This Henty novel illustrated by the popular artist Walter Stanley Paget (1863-1935), the youngest of three famous artist brothers, who had a keen sense of period costume for his figures, and whose other commissions included Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island (1899). Wal.Paget was orignally chosen to illustrate The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1891 onward), but through an unfortunate misunderstanding the position fell to his brother Sydney, who went on to illustrate thirty eight Holmes stories, using Walter's face as the model for the great detective! Walter finally got to produce four Holmes drawings for 'The Adventure of the Dying Detective' (1913). Newbolt, 108.1.

Publisher's mid-green cloth, with gilt and black titles and a colour illustration laid down to upper. Contents clean, some edge toning, cloth lightly handled and rubbed. Very good indeed. An elusive Haggard, which was not issued in the US, this novel is an historical fiction; a medieval adventure set around 'Blossholme Abbey', packed with charging horses, Knights, noblemen and fair maidens.
