First trade edition of 1200 copies (a de-luxe edition of 50 copies was also published). [vii], 63pp., 1 page of publication details, 6 colour monoytpe illustrations and black and white wood-engravings. Andrew John Young (1885-1971) was a Scottish writer, poet and clergyman although recognition of his poetry was slow to develop. The Royal Society of Literature awarded him the Benson Medal in 1939 and gave him an honorary fellowship in 1951. In that year too he received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh and, in the following year, was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. After an introductory remembrance of Andrew Young by Leslie Norris, this book contains seven poems by Yound and a further thirteen poems in homage to Andrew Young by various contributors. There are also biographical notes. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a small gold design on the front board. The book is in very good ocndition with a very small bit of damage to the cloth on the bottom front spine corner. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper is very good with light shelf wear and rubbing along the top edge. The spine ends and top corners are bumped and the spine is slightly faded. There is also slight fading along the top edge of the wrapper.

In den WarenkorbA very nice artefact relating to a beautiful Rampant Lions production, published in 1975. Printers' dummy, produced to indicate the intended layout of the book, consisting of duplicated typed leaves, with emendations and printing instructions in manuscript, showing the intended arrangement of the 125 pages of letterpress (and including an alternative version of p.78), with eleven illustrations loosely interleaved. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. A bifolium of watermarked grey wove paper, carrying a proof of the duotone title ('Root & Sky' in mustard yellow, the rest in black), is loosely inserted at the front. The typed leaves are laid down onto 33 x 25 cm leaves of thick wove paper, all in bifoliums, loosely collected into nine sections, with each section numbered at the front in pencil, and with 'C. F.' in red ink at top of first page of each of the nine sections. 'Christopher Fry' in pencil at the head of the very first page. Ten of the eleven illustrations are printed in pairs, from the contents it is clear that loose illustration, facing p.54, should have a conjugate one facing p.43. In worn brown card folder, with elastic clasp and manuscript label on front: 'CHRISTOPHER FRY DUMMY | ROOT | and | SKY'.

Unbound. Zustand: Near Fine. Portfolio. Twenty engraved plates and one contents card laid into a four-fold chemise of leather over watered silk. The engraved cards are nicely printed on either white or pale pink cards measuring 5" x 7" with rounded corners and gilt edges. The engraved cards are bright and about fine with the author's name penciled neatly in a tiny hand on the unprinted verso (and one with a small penciled note on the front); contents card a trifle foxed with one tiny edge nick. Housed in the worn remains of the four-fold chemise that is lacking several panels, including the front cover. We located a couple of examples in the trade of the same engravings but bound accordion-style into cloth. In that case, the publisher's information was printed at the bottom of the contents card; we are unsure why it was removed for this iteration.
