Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This innovative volume introduces Trajectory Analysis, a new systems-based approach to measuring nonlinear dynamics in continuous change, to public health and epidemiology. It synthesizes influential strands of statistical and probability science (including chaos theory and catastrophe theory) to complement existing methods and models used in the health fields. The computational framework featured here pinpoints complex cause-and-effect processes in behavioral change as individuals and populations adjust to health interventions, with examples from neuroscience and cardiology. But this is no mere academic exercise, as the author illustrates how these methods can be harnessed toward finding real-world answers to longstanding public health problems, starting with treatment recidivism. Included in the coverage: The universality of physical principles in the analysis of health and disease The problem of recidivism in healthcare intervention studies Stability and reversibility/irreversibility of health conditions Chaos theory and sensitive dependence on initial conditions Applications in health monitoring and geographic systems Simulations, applications, and the challenge for public health A stimulating new take on statistics with powerful implications for future study, practice, and policy, Trajectory Analysis in Health Care should interest public health epidemiologists, researchers, clinicians, and policymakers.

Hardcover. Zustand: Befriedigend.

Zustand: Very good. - An original 11-7/8 inch high by 7-5/8 inch wide etching, illustrated with a 10-1/8 inch high by 7-1/2 inch wide image etched by W. Carter. Latin text from Aenid L.12 added within the plate marks at the bottom is etched by Hollar on either side of a coat of arms. As per Pennington 331A, (State 1): Aeneas stands left with the arrow piercing his thigh while Venus descends with a sprig of dittany for the physician who is bent over his table on the right. "F. Cleyn inv." and "W. Carter fecit" are etched within the image at the lower left corner. Text on the verso, printed in letterpress, is from Ogilby's original 1654 English edition. Closely cropped near the plate marks, the etching is mounted with glue from the verso onto a larger sheet of paper. The print is in otherwise near fine condition although the edges of the mount are foxed, soiled and creased with a short tear to the bottom edge of the mount. The engraving is by Carter, but the Latin quotation, the coat of arms and the dedication are by Hollar, except for the "w" in the name, which is an alteration. One of a series of original etchings by Wenceslaus Hollar which were created to illustrate scenes from Virgil. They first appeared in 1654 in John Ogilby's "The Works of Publivs Virgilivs Maro Translated, adorn'd with Sculpture, and illustrated with Annotations". The work was published in London and printed for the author by Thomas Warren. Hollar's etchings were after drawings by Francis Cleyn.Noted for his engravings and etchings, the prolific Bohemian artist Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) spent much of his life in England.[Ref.: Richard Pennington: "A Descriptive Catalogue of the Works of Wenceslaus Hollar 1607-1677", published by Cambridge University Press, 1982].

In den WarenkorbRubens by Hollar Engraved portrait, trimmed to neatline. Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens had executed a self-portrait when he was 50, which was subsequently re-engraved and published by numerous printmakers. Wenceslaus Hollar produced a version in the mid-seventeenth century, probably based on David Huatt's from c1730. It shows the bust of Rubens wearing a wide-brimmed hat and slashed doublet with a floaty collar. The image is set within an ornate oval frame decorated paintbrushes and palettes. Beneath the portrait are lines that also appeared on Huatt's print: "Excellentissimus Dns D. Petrus Paulus Rubenius pictorum Apelles, decus huius saeculi, orbis miraculum, Aulam Hispanicam, Gallicam, Anglicam, Belgicam penicillo suo illustravit. Quem gladio donavit Philippus Quartus Hispaniarum, et statuit sibi a Secretis in sanctiore suo consilio Bruxellensi, ac iam ad Regem Anglicae Legatum extraordinarium misit." 'The most excellent Sir Peter Paul Rubens, the Apelles of painters, the glory of this age; with his brush he illustrated the marvel of the world, the court of Spain, of France, of England, of Belgium. Philip the Fourth of Spain knighted him, and placed him as the private secretary of his honoured council at Brussels, and then sent him an special ambassador to the King of England.' In den WarenkorbThe young Charles II Etched portrait, trimmed to plate mark. In the 1630s Sir Anthony van Dyck executed a series of painted portraits, which were made into engraved prints for his 'Icones Principium Vivorum', a work which remained incomplete at his death in 1641, but which was subsequently finished and published in 1645. Johannes Meyssens used it as the basis for his 'Image de divers hommes', to which Wenceslaus Hollar contributed a large fraction of the 74 new portraits included in the first edition of 1649. These included a portrait of the young Charles II after van Dyck, who had been appointed court painter by his subject's father in 1632. With Charles I beheaded in the January of 1649, this print was published with Charles II as king de jure, as shown by the caption declaring him 'Magna Brittania Fra et Hibernia Rex'. He is shown in three-quarter length wearing a coat, lace collar and sash over his left shoulder. In his left hand he holds his hat and in the right a staff. The Banqueting Hall is visible through the window behind him, seen across St James' Park. NHG Hollar 1064 II; Pennington 1442ii; RCIN 602331.
