Oder doch ein klassischer Unternehmer, für den auch die soziale Gerechtigkeit zählt? Die in der Literatur bekannten Definitionen für Social Entrepreneurs sind sich weitgehend einig und grenzen diesen Begriff ganz klar vom ¿homo oeconomicus¿ ab. Allerdings zeigt ein Blick in angrenzende Wissenschaftsbereiche wie der Unternehmensethik deutlich, dass das Prinzip der Gewinnmaximierung durchaus mit einer sozialen Mission zu vereinbaren ist. Gemäß der öffentlichen Meinung steht Social Entrepreneurship noch am Anfang seiner Entwicklung und steckt im Vergleich zu der Situation in anderen Ländern noch in den Kinderschuhen. Jedoch belegen Beispiele aus der deutschen Unternehmerwelt, dass der soziale Kapitalismus auch in Deutschland vertreten ist. Aber auch in der heutigen Zeit nehmen der soziale Charakter und die Nachhaltigkeit einen großen Stellenwert bei den Unternehmen ein. Allerdings verfolgen die meisten Organisationen das klassische Business, bei dem noch die Gewinnmaximierung das oberste Ziel ist. Darüber hinaus gibt es auch die Social Entrepreneurs in ¿Reinform¿, die gänzlich auf Spenden und Fördergelder angewiesen sind. Für sie steht die Generierung von Gewinnen gänzlich außer Frage. Doch es besteht auch die Gefahr oder das Risiko, dass einige Unternehmer ihre Aktivitäten im sozialen Bereich nur als ¿Beruhigung des schlechten Gewissens¿ oder als ¿window dressing¿ sehen. Aus diesem Grund wird unter anderem ein allgemein anwendbares Messprinzip der sozialen Rendite gefordert. Allerdings ist hier die Anwendbarkeit eines Maßstabes schwer. Ist die Reduzierung von Umweltverschmutzung sozial wertvoller als die Unterstützung der Bildung in Dritte Welt Ländern? Erste Versuche, wie die Einführung von Kennzahlen (Social Return on Investment) oder die Bewertung von Unternehmen über Ranking-Agenturen, erlauben einen Vergleich der sozialen Aktivitäten. Die Studie beschreibt die heutige Situation von Social Entrepreneurship in Deutschland, unterwirft gängige Definitionen einer kritischen Bewertung und zeigt neue Sichtweisen auf.
