Ce fascicule est illustré de quelques figures dans le texte et, en début de volume, d'une planche hors-texte. Charles Simon Clerm…ont-Ganneau (1846-1923), orientaliste et archéologue, fit d'importantes découvertes archéologiques en Palestine où il séjournait depuis 1867 comme drogman-chancelier au consulat de France. Nommé consul à Jaffa en 1881, il accepta une mission sur la côte égyptienne à l'est du Nil en Philistide, Phénicie et Palestine ; il en a exposé les résultats dans les Archives des missions scientifiques. Jusqu'à sa mort, il mènera parallèlement une carrière de diplomate et d'archéologue. Clermont-Ganneau a aussi démasqué de nombreuses fraudes archéologiques. Lanoë relieur). Edition originale. Né en 1848 à Nice, Eugène-Melchior de Vogüe, diplomate, é…crivain, membre de l'Institut, fut élu à l'Académie Française en 1888. Il collabora à la Revue des Deux Mondes, dans laquelle il diffusa, à la fin du XIXème siècle, de nombeux articles consacrés à la littérature russe et contribua ainsi à faire découvrir aux français des auteurs tels que Gogol, Dostoïevski, Tourgueniev, Tolstoï. Secrétaire d'ambassade en Russie, c'est, notamment, grâce à son mariage avec Alexandra Annenka-demoiselle d'honneur de l'impératrice, qu'il s'immergea dans la culture russe. Dans les "Histoires d'Hiver" l'âme russe imprègne ces histoires. Tirage limité à 225 exemplaires sur papier vélin à la cuve des fabriques du Marais (N°26).
