Extremely rare, not recorded on Worldcat, which lists several related reports from earlier stages of the programme in 1971 and 1973 (covering Wadi Zabid, soils, hydrology etc). Although indicated as Volume 1, the contents pages and text do not mention subsequent volumes, and it appears to be self-contained. It forms one of the products from the follow-on programme agreed between Hungary and PDRY in April 1973. Based on this agreement, in June 1974, PDRY's Ministry of Agriculture signed a contract with the Hungarian Organisation for International Technical and Scientific Cooperation (TESCO) and Institute for Hydraulic Planning (VIZITERV), to conduct a reconnaissance survey at Wadi Mayfa'ah in the Shabwah Governorate. Under the terms of the agreeement, PDRY counterparts would do the necessary groundwater drilling and test pumping. Their survey builds on previous work by the FAO (1969, 1970) and Dar al Handasah Engineering (1971, 1974) which were however "prepared without or with minimal explorations or field survey". The team performed the fieldwork during September 1974 and October 1975 to ensure a full year of observations. They covered: climate (to set up and run a meteorological observation network and compile data); surface water resources (to set up gauges in wadi tributaries to monitor surface runoff and flood characteristics); groundwater resources (exploratory drilling, test pumping, determination of aquifer system, monitoring flow dynamics, etc); and a soil survey of cultivable areas (classification, land capability mapping, evaluation). The main report describes the findings for each with several related maps and data charts. The appendices include multiple detailed data tables and charts, and a list of references.
