Despite having progressed from a village boy into an urban citizen and having toured the metropolises of India, The grandeur vision of Washington material prosperity, in all its majesty, which manifested itself before him, overawed him, because USA, the most advanced nation on the Earth, holds all the earthly temptations to sway anyone coming from the br> Oriental for the first time. It had the same magnetic impact on Swami Vivekananda, a venerable saint, who landed in America in 1893 when by virtue of his matchless erudition, he mesmerised the intelligentsia of USA and the world. Still he was beholden to the grandeur of USA when he reached there and beheld its magnificence. Hence, for Sarah to be bedazzled by the awesome sight of Washington was nothing new.…

India, unfortunately, forgot the glory of '56 inches' over time and consequently remained subjugated by the invaders and colonizer for ages. However even in those turbulent times, when India appeared to have lost her mooring, the great sons and daughters of Mother India always rose in protest against the repression and tyranny unleashed by the invaders and colonial power. The book encapsulates the details of such legion of brave men and women whose '56 inches' alone provided the saving grace to the beleaguered Mother India in different times and eras. Starting from Chandragupta Maurya, Prithviraj Chauhan in the ancient India, to MaharanaPratap, ChhatrapatiShivaji, Guru Gobind Singh in the medieval times, India continued to exhibit her '56 inches' to protest the foreign invasion and repression unleashed by the marauding Afghan tribes who invaded India from across the border intermittently and the Mughals who made India their homes after finding India a heaven on earth. Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. This volume is a collection of essays on untouchability written by Professor Jha at various points of his long and illustrious career. It dwells on the manner in which social stratification in ancient India developed to exclude castes like Candalas and Nisadas, leading to their exploitation and sub-human treatment. The book begins with tracing the origin and condition of Candalas (1000 BC to AD 600), who were first mentioned in later Vedic literature (1000 to 600 BC) at the Purushamedha (symbolic human sacrifice) dedicated to deity Vayu. Another essay examines the acculturation of the Nisadas-who were mainly fishermen and hunters by profession-which started from the Later Vedic Period. Candalas and Nisadas were both over time assimilated into the Brahmanical caste structure as degraded shudras, and ultimately relegated to being untouchables. The book also examines the Bhagavadgita and Asoka's Dhamma from the perspective of caste and untouchability. It provides key insights into the origin and growth of the caste system, especially untouchability, extending beyond the brahmanical lens. It is a valuable addition to the study of early Indian social history and social structures. …

Soft cover. Zustand: New. The Making of Narendra Modi, Unmaking of Jawaharlal is an avant-garde book on the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution. A comprehensively researched book, it encompasses the genesis of the issue up until its resolution leading to its repealment from the Constitution. A rare book that discusses the foreign policy of India since 1947 till date, alongside domestic issues, it significantly portrays the evolving role and dimensions of the Indian diaspora in shaping the political trajectory in India. Unequivocally, the judgment of the Supreme Court on December 23, 2023, upholding the decision of the Modi government to nullify Article 370 is tantamount to validating the very title of this bookas this decision, including the earlier decision on Sri Ram Janmabhoomi, marks the making of Narendra, while ensuring the unmaking of Jawaharlal in the processfor the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was a Nehruvian albatross around the neck of Mother India, which found its expression via Article 370. This book would be of great interest to policy makers, foreign policy experts, diaspora, students of strategic affairs, and to the intelligentsia of the nation and world.…
