'And likewise concerning place, the physicist must know, as well as concerning infinity.' The foregoing in this book concerning place and time and void is discussed, and the first is concerning place. this again is used with the thodo; for before, the problem concerning place is shown to be necessary to the physicist, because he has also learned about infinity and is almost omnipresent. That the reason of place is necessary to the physicist, it is understood. It is from the doctrine of the many ancients. For beings, it is said, all assume in place, and make it out of nonbeings; for if the nonbeing, Phaistine, Udamus, the being therefore, as it is not possible for anything that is not in place to be, is. That they use the reverse of what has been said many times: of the word. For since they have done the reverse of the contrary, it follows that ?ei is the not being of adam, which is the being of adam, and so is true if the word be true, and it is contrary to the one that is adam, and to the not being that which is not the being. But if they also sin, they always simply assume the things in place, but they are the natural bodies of which the reason of the natural is manifestly in place: for the place of each of the elements is ten by nature, the earth, the fire, and the rest; so that the reason of the place is necessary to the natural. And if not, if the motion of the natural be spoken of, for even of nature, nature being the beginning of motion and rest, and the first and chief of motions being that of place (for it is proved in the eighth of this matter, that none of the others can be without it, and this without the others; the heavenly beings move it alone), therefore it is necessary to speak of place, and of the physical, wherein the physical is the first and chief of the motions. The first of the motions is made. for if the purpose of the physical is the accomplishment of the vegetable bodies, and each of the simple bodies has its own motion according to place, it is impossible for him who does not know the nature of the simple bodies to know the motions of the nature of these, and impossible for him who does not know the nature of the motions of these to know the nature of the nature of these, and impossible for him who does not know the nature of the nature of the motions of the simple bodies to know the nature of the motions of the simple bodies. The nature of every man's place, wherein also he maketh his motion. So that if the motion of the simple bodies by nature is ignored of the place, the motion of the simple bodies is also ignored, and if this is ignored, the nature of the simple bodies is also ignored, and the simple bodies and the things that are made of them are also ignored.
