Edith Oenone Somerville and Violet Florence Martin met in 1886, and their literary collaboration lasted until 1915, with the death of Martin. Both worked for woman suffrage in Ireland, and Somerville continued to write under their joint pseudonym, believing in Martin's continued spirit-connection (see Blain et al. *Feminist Companion.* p. 1006].
