Näherkommend: Flammen im Schnee. Von nahem: ein groß gewachsener Mann, der einen von diesen blauen, französischen Arbeitskitteln trägt, verbrennt etwas, das an große gestreifte Flaggen oder Banner erinnert. Dies ist Arbeit im Freien, bei jedem Wetter: mit Chemikalien, Feuer, dichtem Rauch und beißenden Gerüchen. Der Arbeiter schafft Kunst. Er nennt diese Werke "process paintings" (Prozessuale Bilder) . Selbstverständlich sind diese gestreiften Flaggen und Banner bearbeitete Leinwände (man denke an präparierte Klaviere). Ein Streifen dieser Leinwände ist unbehandelt, der andere nur bemalt, der dritte ist mehrfarbig, chemisch behandelt. Daneben auch weitere Kombinationen in diesem Feld der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten. Dann: eins - zwei - drei - FEUER! Und Vincent läßt seine vorbereiteten Leinwände mit Feuer und Rauch spielen. Aber dies ist Kunst, keine Brandstiftung, und der Künstler weiß aufgrund seiner langen Erfahrung die Flamme zu bändigen, die er entfachte. Auf diese Art und Weise ist das entstandene Gemälde das Zeugnis einer künstlerischen Entwicklung und nicht lediglich das zurückbleibende Objekt einer Performance. Der Prozeß ist ein Ereignis, und Vincent bei der Arbeit reagiert auf das Ritual des Prozesses. Aber das Ereignis kommt ohne jedes "brou-ha-ha" und ohne den Aufwand der "Performance art" aus.
