From a limited edition of 250, this numbered 15, signed by Richard Stanton Lambert. Marcus Hieronymous Vida was a sixteenth century poet who, in his youth, had attained celebrity by his two poems on the Game of Chess (Scacchia Ludus) and the Silkworm. On arrival in Rome he was commissioned by Pope Leo the Tenth to compose a great Christian epic and his Christiad was published 14 years later. Following this he became the Bishop of Alba where he remained until his death in 1516. A rare chess related item.
