Founded by Honoré de Balzac, Emile de Girardin-Ratier and Victor Varaigne. It was the first weekly caricature journal published in France which valorised both text and image. Quand les illustrations se firent plus audacieuses et politiques, notamment celle de Charles X en Jésuite, la revue attira l'attention de la censure. "Rare. Cette revue fut le premier essai d'un journal de caricatures; elle eut pour fondateurs Emile de Girardin, Balzac et de Varaigne; Henry Monnier et Gavarni lui consacrèrent aussi leur esprit et leur crayon" (Vicaire).
