Nur dieser von Hans Ried im Auftrag Kaiser Maximilians I. abgefasste Text kann die Grundlage einer verlässlichen Studienausgabe darstellen. Die vorliegende Studienausgabe mit philologischem Kommentar und moderner neuhochdeutscher Übersetzung bietet nicht nur den Ambraser Text, sondern sämtliche Überlieferungszeugen des ersten deutschsprachigen Artusromans im Paralleldruck und verzichtet aufgrund ihrer Handschriftennähe dabei weitgehend auf Konjekturen.
