Mauve Cloth Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. First UK Edition. 1891. First UK edition. ix, 330pp., a folding coloured map, and 26 black and white illustrations (mostly full-page). This is a fascinating account of the author's travels in the Antipodes at the end of the 19th century, after leaving Marseilles on board the 'Oceanien', bound for Melbourne. He describes the life there, the people and the countryside, with some brief historical information. The book is bound in the original mauve cloth covered boards with gold and black titling on the spine and gold titling with a colour illustrations showing kangaroos on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and fading to the boards and spine. The corners and bottom of the spine are ligthtly bumped and there is heavier bumping to the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with light foxing on the endpapers and half-title page. There is no inscription.…
