Édition originale sélective comprenant 18 des 29 planches de cette suite humoristique lithographiées par Honoré Daumier (23) et Charles Vernier (7). La série Actualités Politiques, publiée entre 1856 et 1859, comprenait plus de 300 planches lithographiées dont seulement 173 étaient de Daumier, les autres de Cham et Vernier. Cet album [Actualités Politiques] figure ces bons Autrichiens à l'époque de la première guerre d'indépendance italienne. Dans le cadre de l'unification italienne (Risorgimento), la guerre opposa le Royaume de Sardaigne (Piémont) et des volontaires italiens à l'Empire autrichien et à d'autres États conservateurs du 23 mars 1848 au 22 août 1849 dans la péninsule italienne.
