Six new taxa are described: Mericella rosadoi n. sp., southern Tanzania; Scalptia gorii n. sp., south Oman; Scalptia delsaerdti n. sp., Mozambique and Scalptia delsaerdti hasegawai n. ssp., a geographic subspecies from Japan, Scalptia larissaensis n. sp. from Kuwait, Scalptia rashafunensis n. sp. Cape Ras Hafun, Somalia. Admetula afra Petit & Harasewych, 2000, southern Mozambique, was already known from eastern South Africa. A disputed shell from Mozambique Channel is identified as Brocchinia tanimbarensis Verhecken, 1997. A unique shell and 8 (possibly juvenile) shells are presented as two species inquirenda. Two shells are recognised as Zeadmete verheckeni Petit & Harasewych, 2000, South Africa, and shells of Merica semperiana (Crosse, 1863) (new comb.), New Caledonia are illustrated. A lectotype is designated for Cancellaria bicolor Hinds, 1843. Eight species of the subfamily Plesiotritoninae from off SE Africa are presented and figured: Africotriton crebriliratus (Sowerby, 1903), Africotriton fictilis (Hinds, 1844), Africotriton petiti Beu & Maxwell, 1987, Tritonoharpa antiquata (Hinds in Reeve, 1844), Tritonoharpa beui Verhecken, 1997, Tritonoharpa pseudangasi Beu & Maxwell, 1987, Fusimorio rosadoi (Beu & Verhecken, 2000) is a new combination; Plesiotriton vivus Habe & Okutani, 1981, occurs both in the Philippines and off eastern Africa. New taxa: Mericella rosadoi n. sp., Scalptia gorii n. sp., Scalptia delsaerdti n. sp., Scalptia delsaerdti hasegawai n. ssp., Scalptia larissaensis n. sp., Scalptia rashafunensis n. sp. 58 pp., num. figs and color plates, stapled 4. …

The Cancellariidae living off the western African coast, the mid-Atlantic Islands and in the Mediterranean Sea are reviewed. Twenty species are studied: 3 Admetula, 1 Axelella, 2 Bivetiella, 4 Brocchinia, 1 Cancellaria s.l., 1 Nothoadmete, 1 Loxotaphrus, 2 Solatia, 1 Sveltia, 2 Tribia, and 2 Trigonostoma. Trigonostoma gofasi n. sp. is distinguished from the western African T. scala (Gmelin, 1791) n. comb. by its multispiral protoconch, wider umbilicus, smooth columellar callus, axial ribs on the sutural ramp not reaching the suture, and the absence of a siphonal fasciole; and from the central western American T. goniostoma (Sowerby, 1832) in its wider umbilicus, more deviated columella and in being less elongate. A species of Solatia which has previously been recognised as new, is not named due to lack of adequate material. The species name in the combination Voluta cancellata Linnaeus, 1767 is declared nomen protectum, making the senior name Murex scabriculus Linnaeus, 1758 invalid as nomen oblitum. A neotype is designated for Murex scala Gmelin, 1791. A lectotype is designated for Cancellaria minima Reeve, 1856, Cancellaria similis Sowerby, 1833, Voluta lyrata Brocchi, 1814, Cancellaria angasi Crosse, 1863 and Cancellaria rigida Sowerby, 1832; the latter name refers to a West African and not a West American species. Distribution data are updated, and relations to fossil taxa are indicated when applicable. The protoconchs of 17 species are figured; only the protoconch type of the bathyal species Brocchinia decapensis and Nothoadmete euthymei n. comb. remain unknown. Egg capsules attributed to one of the North West African Bivetiella species are figured. 84 pp., 64 figs, stapled gr. 8.…

The Cenozoic Pleiotritoninae (Mollusca: Neogastropoda: Cancellarioidea: Cancellariidae) of the Aquitaine basin, southwestern France. The Cenozoic species belonging to the subfamily Plesiotritoninae Beu & Maxwell, 1987 (Cancellariidae ) currently known from the Aquitaine Basin, southwestern France, are studied. Geological and geographical settings of the sites involved are specified. Apart from Loxotaphrus thorei (Grateloup, 1845), seven new species are described here: Plesiotriton aucoini, early Oligocene (late Rupelian) of Espibos, Gaas (Landes); P. camiadeorum, early Oligocene (late Rupelian) of Lagouarde, Gaas (Landes); P. ganensis and P. teuleraensis, both early Eocene (middle-late Ypresian, Cuisian) of La Teulere, Gan (Pyr?n?es-Atlantiques); Tritonoharpa aquitaniensis, early Miocene (early Burdigalian), Vives quarry, Meilhan (Landes); T. mariechristinae, middle Miocene (Langhian) of G?lis quarry, Le Houga (Gers); T. renardi, middle Miocene (Serravallian) of Carr? or historically Carrey, Sallespisse (Pyr?n?es-Atlantiques). Triton speciosum Bellardi, 1873 is here placed in Tritonoharpa; for Triton praetextum Bellardi, 1873 no position could be adopted for lack of good material. The species introduced under the name Tritonidea (Cantharus) aturensis (Peyrot, 1927) is here considered to be an ecomorph of the very variable species Loxotaphrus thorei (Grateloup, 1845), besides L. thorei morph thorei, L. thorei morph estotiensis and L. thorei morph laevis. Loxotaphrus abnormis (Bayan, 1870) is considered to be different from L. thorei, but Loxotaphrus subtaurinensis (Vergneau, 1965) is considered to be a synonym of L. thorei. The new genus Beuella (Cancellariidae: Plesiotritoninae) is proposed for Tritonidea pisanelloides Cossmann in O?Gorman & Cossmann, 1923 of the Cuisian of Gan (Pyr?n?es-Atlantiques). …
