The contribution about the Netherlands was made possible with the cooperation of photographer Rocio Escobar and journalist Mishette Mitchell-Bernard from Costa Rica. In order to safeguard the ecosystem on earth, teeth must increasingly work together based on a solidarity that transcends national borders. This book shows what such an intensive form of cooperation means for the protection of the environment and the development of the political and cultural climate. But also what questions the proposed bundling of forces raises in the teeth involved. The four countries, each with deep-rooted historical and cultural traditions, want to break with mistakes from the past. Living Apart Together is about millions of people who, each in their own way, are looking for solutions to everyday problems. Due to advanced technology, increasing speed of communication, trade flows and the existence of a global market, these people have much more to do with each other than before. That is why they have something in common: they recognize that global cooperation and respect for each other's points of view are necessary to secure the future of coming generations.
