He completed surgical training in Zurich and in Pierre Decker's department at the Cantonal Hospital in Vaud. In 1946 he founded the Clinic for Hand Surgery La Longeraie in Lausanne, which became known worldwide and from 1961 to 1980 he was Head of the Surgical Polyclinic of the University of Lausanne. After his retirement in 1981, Verdan founded a museum about the hand in Lausanne. It is managed by the Claude Verdan Foundation.
